These stories of people crossing or straddling borders fascinated the theater scientist, dramatist and performer Sudipto Chatterjee from Calcutta: from the music-making Baul monks of the borderlands between Bangladesh and India, who blend Tantric Hindu traditions those of the Sufi Muslims.

In the history of these Baul monks, the composer Lalon Fakir has achieved almost mythical status with his artful songs and verses. Sudipto Chatterjee developed his multimedia narration after ten years of field research. Mirrors and projections provide the backdrop for Lalon’s songs, sung live to the accompaniment of typically Baul khol and ektara drums or dotara lutes. "Extremely rare creative insights to how artistic searching can differ from simple research", wrote the Calcutta Telegraph about this Sufi performance.
