Born in 1963 in New York's South Bronx, Joe Conzo is regarded as the photographic chronicler of the American Hip Hop movement. Since the 1970s, his photographic work has documented pioneers, activists and the creative and social energy of early Hip Hop in the US.

The 2007 publication "Born in the Bronx: A Visual Record of the Early Days of Hip Hop" features the first compilation of his historic photographs from 1977 to 1982. To this day, his portraits, snapshots and documentary images continue to record the latest developments in Hip Hop as an expressive style and cultural movement.
