17.11.: In the presence of director Helena Ignez

Brazil 2010, 83 min, English subtitles

Based on the true story of the gangster “Red Light“, who became a legendary figure in 1960s São Paulo, Helena Ignez and Ícaro C. Martins have created an existential art film in colorful, pop-like pictures. While “Red Light“ reviews his career in the cell of an over-crowded high-security prison and devotes himself to reading philosophical works, his son “All or Nothing“ follows in his fathers footsteps outside.

Helena Ignez (*1942 in Salvador de Bahia) worked as an actress with prominent directors of the 1960s, such as Glauber Rocha and Rogério Sganzerla. Her debut feature film as a director was “Canção de Baal“ (2007), which won the critics’ prize at the 32nd Festival de Gramado.Ícaro C. Martins (*1954 in Santos) studied film at the University of São Paulo and began his directing career with the short film “Favela“ (1976). He went on to write and direct a number of feature films. He works as a screenplay writer, director and as program director at TV Brasil.
