Festival
35 mm Persia
A 3-day film festival on the history and archaeology of Iran in film, followed by a colloquium.
Different aspects of presenting archaeology are investigated from various points of view. The question arises as to how these portrayals can be used as a projection for one's own dreams or as a model for historical identification.
In Iran over the last few decades, a distinctive way of filming documentaries has developed which clearly differs from film traditions in the West. Archaeological sites are seen as a constant for depicting the development of films and their interpretation by Iranian and European film directors. A comparison between European and Iranian films on this subject will not only be critically examined but also discussed in depth.
Programme 1
Excavated - Found - Filmed How is archaeology carried out? The illustration of the day to day routine of archaeological life on film often reveals more about the ideas of the director than about the reality of research itself. Based on several films, we should like to give you an insight into European and Iranian interpretations of this science.
