It’s no accident that Mulatu Astatke recently chose them as their backing group. Just as the Godfather of Ethio-Jazz fused Ethiopian melodies with Latin and Jazz style elements, the Australian "Jesus Experience" enriches Ethio-Jazz with Funk and Hip Hop.

The project, initiated by the composer and master of overtone saxophone, Peter Harper, brings together a veritable polyphony of talents. The soft, flowing voice of singer Enushu Taye blends with the Rap of “lyrical miracle“ Mr. Monk; the Reggae-inspired bass of the Maori Cass Horsfall collides with the free trumpet improvisations of Ian Dixon, a former partner of Kenny Garrett; and variations of Indian percussion meet funky keyboard grooves. In their first live appearance together, this band had the entire crowd at the WOMADelaide Festival 2009 singing together for minutes on end.
