With this film, Prabda Yoon, the 32-year-old author and screenwriter from Thailand, has created a story board that breaks a number of taboos. The film was rated R by the American Classification & Rating Administration for sexual content, drug use, violence, and language. The magical-realistic romance between a suicidal Japanese librarian (and ex-yakuza) and a world-weary prostitute in Bangkok begins fittingly for a literary programme: a man stands atop a stack of books with a rope around his neck.
