Henry Chalfant relates the musical history of the South Bronx. This was where the "Kings of Mambo" lived, where young musicians blended Afro-Cuban rhythms with Latino elements to create Salsa. Property speculators put an end to this creative cosmos – until a new phenomenon rose from the rubble of the old Bronx: Hip Hop.
