A seemingly never ending flow of surprising ideas and literary invention has made the works of Stanislav Lem among the most printed and filmed in science fiction. He himself subscribed to a simple philosophy which he tried to use to describe future developments. He was educated as a doctor but refused to give certain ideological answers in an exam. The ban practising medicine which followed made him into an author. After the travel restrictions were lifted from Poland he moved to Berlin and Vienna.
