“Monkey and me, Monkey and me, Monkey and me, we went to see ...” – Together a little girl and her favourite stuffed animal set off on a playful journey in the animal world. Here, they encounter penguins, kangaroos, bats, elephants and monkeys. They imitate the way the animals sound and move and end their journey tired, but satisfied, at the coffee table for tea and biscuits. Emily Gravett's children's books often use animal figures and a strong dose of humour as a means of narrating children's adventures between reality and imagination. It is not rare to find an unexpected turn at the end of the story that inspires children to request repeated readings.
