Shaun Tan's graphic novel “The Arrival,” which wordlessly narrates the protagonist's new life as an immigrant, will be the starting point for a discussion of immigration. What makes a person decide to leave home and family behind to live a new life somewhere else, under different, perhaps better, circumstances? What does it mean for the individual to leave a familiar culture and to establish himself or herself in a foreign culture with a foreign language? And how do those left behind deal with the decision?
