The Worm has a dream: he wants to acquire the art of flying. Therefore, he asks the bird for help. When fall comes, the birds leave the land and fly south. However, the worm-bird stays. He is too bound to the soil and he lacks the spirit of the birds. An allusion to Richard Bach's 1970 text “Jonathan Livingston Seagull,” this literary parable tells us about striving toward what is new and unknown. Flying is simply and metaphor for the longing for freedom and the wish for a self-determined identity.
