Terry Riley

In 1964, the pianist Terry Riley wrote ”In C”, the first work of Minimal Music. With pattern music, loops, and time distortion, he gave electronic music of the 1960s its most important stylistic device. Since the 1970s, he has been working with Indian songs and Indian music.

On the occasion of his 75th Birthday, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, in cooperation with CTM-Concerts, presents an evening with Terry Riley, the tabla player Talvin Singh – renowned in the Asian Underground scene - he has played with Björk, Blondie, Massive Attack - and the saxophonist George Brooks, who fuses modern jazz with North Indian rhythms. The three outstanding musicians show how smoothly Indian ragas flow into jazz and minimal music.
