The author Nicolai Lilin, who lives in Italy, writes in his début about his childhood spent amongst the Siberian Ukri, a Mafia-like clan who were deported to Transnistria by Stalin. He became acquainted with a life that follows its own rules and customs, and which operates on the fringes of society, beyond all recognised categories of good and evil.
