Even beyond the centers Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Salvador da Bahia, Brazil has many music scenes. Manu Lafer shows that even in the large and sparsely populated Amazon region, Brazil’s singing and songwriting tradition, which in recent decades has achieved unparalleled success worldwide, is unstoppable.

In 1998, the full-time pediatrician released his first album, "Flor da Baião,“ followed by "O Patriota“ in 2001, which he recorded with the Musica Popular Brasileira-star Danilo Caymmi. This wouldn’t be his only connection to the legendary Caymmi family of musicians. Lafer‘s compositions have been sung by Nana Caymmi and Lafer’s latest album, "Ta shema," was dedicated to her brother Dori Caymmi (he performed at WASSERMUSIK 2008). Manu Lafer is yet another great Brazilian songwriter ready to be discovered in Europe.
