An orchestra rehearsal spinning out of control serves as a metaphor for the breakdown of a state, namely of Italy in the 1970s. A system becomes recognizable: The demotivation and corruptibility of the musicians represents that of the politicians and the population. An apocalyptic scenario of anarchy, and probably Fellini’s most political film.
