Horace Andy (Jamaica)

Roots-Reggae in falsetto

Horace Andy has been in the music business for over thirty years now, and released at least 20 records. He has influenced an entire generation of roots-reggae singers with his falsetto. In Jamaica he is a star. Horace Andy really became internationally famous, however, as a guest singer with Massive Attack. Since the early 1990s, “Sleepy” has been in the standard repertoire of the trip hop pioneers from Bristol. He even did the vocals for the hit “One Love” on the band's first album “Blue Lines”. In the course of his long career, Horace Andy has performed live with almost all the Reggae greats, such as Coxson Dodd, Bunny Lee, Gussie Clarke, King Tubby, John Holt, Bim Sherman, Steely & Clevie, Dennis Brown and Jah Shaka. His biggest hit, “Skylarking”, has been covered and sampled countless times by the most diverse producers.

Lee "Scratch" Perry (Jamaica) + Adrian Sherwood (GB)

Transcendent Dub Party

Without him, reggae wouldn’t sound the way it sounds. Since the 60s, producer Lee Perry was solely responsible for the sound world and arrangements of countless trend-setting albums of the Wailers (with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh), the Mighty Daimonds, Augustus Pablo and Max Romeo. In the 70s, he was the leading promoter of the new dub music. After many personal and creative ups and downs, he now resides in Switzerland, a far cry from Kingston. As a professional eccentric, Perry continually manages to surprise his fans. His own albums can be deep, heavy dub experiments, or just a collection of old playbacks. His recently recorded album “The Mighty Upsetter, which he collaborated on with the British dub master Adrian Sherwood, 'falls into the former category.
