Set in New Orleans in the'80s, a corpse is found in a fountain on the Piazza d'Italia: During the murder investigation, Detective Remy McSwain (Dennis Quaid), who has never minded getting a few payoffs under the table, meets up with the ambitious district attorney Anne Osborne (Ellen Barkin). The detective falls in love, but Anne Osborne stays the course in her fight against corruption. Despite her feelings. McSwain is forced to pull some tricks in order to save his skin. Only when his brother dies by a „recklessness" maneuver does he begin to think differently. The sultry romantic thriller from New Orleans is considered an atmospheric masterpiece. This is particularly due to its Cajun soundtrack which allows the relaxed flair of Louisiana to come alive. Quaid won the best male actor award in 1988 for his role in „The Big Easy“ at the Independent Spirit Awards, which is conidered the Oscar of American independent cinema.Cajun-Thriller, USA 1987, 99 min, English OV
