On behalf of the foreign office, cultural institutions offer concerts, exhibitions, films, performances and discussions, giving special insight into German cultural life abroad and its worldwide projects. Diversity is the motto.

The program opens with the Ensemble Modern, screenings of short films by Iranian and German film students, distinguished fellows sketch a portrait of Berlin, the writer Jonathan Franzen meditates on the German language, Cécile Wajsbrot, Tanja Dückers and Oksana Sabuschko discuss trauma and memory, a Long Night is devoted to African video art - more events are being planned.

In the Haus der Kulturen der Welt curators introduce the exhibition Pictopia and the performance collective Gob Squad takes you into new character worlds. On the last day, Alexander Kluge sums things up in the Temporary Kunsthalle.

The joint program is co-organized by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the DAAD, the Deutsche Welle, the Goethe-Institut, the Institute for Foreign Relations and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
