The year 2009 has a wealth of anniversaries to celebrate: Twenty years ago the Berlin Wall fell – the outcome of a European movement that started in Poland and the Czech Republic, on the streets of Gdansk, Prague, and many other cities. The Young Sound Forum of Central Europe is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a tour through Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany with concerts in Swidnica, Wroclaw, Teplice, Prague and Berlin.

The program features Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s rarely performed overture from „The Fair Melusina“ in honor of his 200th anniversary and a symphonic poem by the great Polish composer Mieczyslaw Karlowicz, who celebrates his 100th anniversary this year.

The young German composer and percussionist Johannes Fischer has written a Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra for the Young Sound Forum of Central Europe which will be premiered on this tour.

The concert concludes with excerpts from Bedrich Smetana’s „The Bartered Bride.”

In cooperation with the German Foreign Ministry.

Under the patronage of the Czech Council Presidency of the European Union and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Germany Dr. Rudolf Jindrák.

Supported by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Germany, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Germany and the Polish Cultural Institute Berlin.
