A gang of criminals at the time the Mexican state was founded. The director and actor Claudio Valdés-Kuri skilfully combines events on the stage with an old silent film: “A brilliantly conceived piece.” (The Tagesspiegel newspaper, 21 April 2004).

To coincide with the German première of Valdés Kuri's ¿Dónde estaré esta noche? IN TRANSIT 05 will be showing El automóvil gris from 2002, which explores the founding myth of the Mexican republic: Three people perform next to and in front of the screen - a Mexican actress, a Mexican-Japanese actress and a Benshi, a professional Japanese film commentator, as was standard procedure there during the age of the silent film. A semi-documentary film with the same title will also be shown: a famous silent film dating from 1919, which presents the history of the first organised gangs of criminals in Mexico at the time of the revolution. The actresses lend each performer a voice and thereby consciously play with the confusing combination of language, voices and sounds.

Co-produced by House of World Cultures and Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, Mexico.
