Vera Mantero (Portugal)

Silence Course names two different versions of a same film project initiated by a collaboration between Portuguese choreographer Vera Mantero and Portuguese film director Miguel Gonçalves Mendes. These two different films resulted from the same script and the same co-direction, based on the singular universe of recently deceased Portuguese novelist Maria Gabriela Llansol. However, in the editing room, each director's sensibility diverged, and both agreed that the film would come out in two separate versions. IN TRANSIT will present the German première of Vera Mantero's version. Her unique mode of approaching the filmic indicates a vivid hybridization with live performance, as Mantero's Silence Course reveals a particular sensibility coming from her choreographic language, her use of temporality, and her approach to image, body and language.
