The Ekeko is a widespread deity in the Andean region that stands for prosperity and the fulfillment of material desires. Maria Galindo and the feminist collective Mujeres Creando reinterpret this figure as the female Ekeka. In a “beauty contest,” they discuss – represented by indigenous women traders – What do you want to unload? In the film Masterless Voices by Ines Doujak and John Barker, a researcher appears in a costume covered in eyes, lugging an “Indian automaton” on her back and unable to rid herself of it.
