Communicating

With Felipe Castelblanco, Nishant Shah

The processes and factors that affect communication practices are multifarious, involving everything from colonial practices of information storage and algorithmic structures that favor digital storage over human memory, to patriarchal conditions that make the voices of dissent invisible, militarized nation-states that censor and penalize anything perceived as threatening and capitalistic formations that convert people into things.

In this seminar reflection, media scholar Nishant Shah and artist Felipe Castelblanco moderate a discussion with the participants of their seminar Communicating, which has taken place over the course of the week. Together they attempt to locate a practice of communication as a body of work in this flux, straddling multiple structures that could be rehearsed as oppositional but are more interactive.
