Marla Hansen is a team player and has worked with bands and artists such as The National and Sufjan Stevens. Earlier this year, Dust was her first solo release and her very own musical vision after a seven-year hiatus. Folk is one of its foundations, but there are also feverish grooves and orchestral moments on Dust. They are held together by Hansen’s vocals, which alternate between the registers; haunting yet earthy.
Half of Tonia Reeh’s sound comes from classical music and the other from pop, but the attitude behind it is mostly punk. The pianist, also known as Monotekktoni and a member of the Masonne project, interweaves confrontational lyrics with at times melancholic compositions, at times energetic beats – each piece becomes a challenge. She and Rudi Fischerlehner form the duo La Tourette, whose new album Future Kids will be released in August.
