For many years the copyleft movement has countered copyright with other ideas of authorship and property. It has created alternative licensing models to meet the requirements of creative works as cooperative and networked practice. But platform capitalism at the latest has shown how easy it is to exploit free culture. The artists’ organization Constant explores the question of how licensing models can be reinvented from feminist, anticolonial and collective perspectives. How can predatory appropriation be prevented without blocking the fruitful potential of open content?
