Berlin is home to a variety of cultures, each with a voice of its own. The House of World Cultures wants to bring together these voices in the CHOIR OF WORLD CULTURES.

We are looking for approximately two dozen singers – men and women – of different generations and nationalities, with a variety of mother tongues. This year, during the early summer months, they will begin preparing a repertoire that will be performed at a wide range of events: music as the House of World Cultures’ “secrete weapon”. The choir will work with musicians who perform at the House’s diverse events and enrich its repertoire with their exclusive compositions and arrangements.

Like the choir, the repertoire should be varied and transcend cultural boundaries. The distinction between light and serious music, which is really only upheld in Germany these days, will play no role whatsoever. The ensemble will be versatile. It will be neither a purely classical choir nor a pop choir, but a CHOIR OF WORLD CULTURES. Moreover, as the singers have different mother tongues, it will be particularly exciting to prepare works with them from their respective cultures.

We have managed to win over Berlin musician Barbara Morgenstern as the choir’s artistic director.

The House of World Cultures invites singers from Berlin to apply for membership in the CHOIR OF WORLD CULTURES. Age, nationality, gender and voice register are unimportant. Nor do you need any previous choir experience to join. What you do need, however, is a good ear, a sense of rhythm, time and a desire to participate in a project of this nature.

Candidates will be invited to attend casting sessions on 14 May, 15 May or 17 May from 5 p.m. on (we shall let you know the venue after we have received the applications). There Barbara Morgenstern and representatives of the House of World Cultures will be able to form an impression of your abilities.
