Amos Gitai, born in Haifa in 1950 as the grandchild of Russian immigrants, is considered the most important Israeli filmmaker. His “House” series covers a period of 26 years, more than a quarter-century of Palestinian-Israeli relations. Gitai, who studied architecture, takes a house in West Jerusalem, its current and former owners, and their neighbors as a mirror for a whole society. The key to this house becomes a symbol.
