The physician Magnus Hirschfeld (1868-1935), who was Jewish and a Social Democrat, was one of the initiators of the world’s first homosexual emancipation movement in the late nineteenth century. Hirschfeld’s life and work will be recognized and his impact re-examined at the historic site of the Institute of Sexual Research, founded by him in 1919 and destroyed by the National Socialists in 1933. The historian Dagmar Herzog will hold the ceremonial speech. Contributors include Katarina Barley, Klaus Lederer and Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger. Musical accompaniment by Vivian Kanner and Maxim Shagaev
