Sun-ju Choi is an author, screenplay editor and filmmaker. She studied literature at the University of Cologne and screenwriting at the German Academy of Film and Television in Berlin. She is currently completing her doctorate with her dissertation on North Korean film Vater Staat und Mutter Partei. She is a founding member and, since 2008, board member of korientation e.V. and published the book of short stories Zuhause – Erzählungen von deutschen Koreanerinnen together with Heike Berner in 2006. From 2007 until 2009 she was the artistic director of the Asian Women’s Film Festival. She is currently working on a full-length documentary about the history of a Korean women’s group in Germany that fought against the deportation of Korean nurses.
