With the popularisation of the quantified self movement and the infiltration of sensors into most aspects of our lives, the time is ripe to ask questions about how our digital ecosystem operates, and how we might subvert it.

Led by Unfit Bits personal trainers, this fitness data consultation and workout will guide you through a vigorous investigation of common fitness trackers. We will explore the evolution of fitness-tracking hardware and how it is being used commercially for purposes like insurance assessments.

We will test and audit common fitness trackers, investigating their algorithms and the systems in which they operate. How do these devices actually work? What do they ‘see’ as activity and what happens to your data after it is collected?
