D: Andrés di Tella, ARG 2007, 110 min, English subtitles
Andrés, offspring of the omnipresent Argentinian intellectual and industrialist family Di Tella, sets out in search of his mother from Madras. The deep trauma left by her absence is off set by his fascination with family. A box of photos, a trip to India, truths about the writer Ricardo Güiraldes and an encounter with cousin Gautam are puzzle pieces for a conciliatory reconstruction.
“The family history of the Chilean-Argentinian director – the son of an Indian mother and Argentinian father of Italian origin – is interwoven with Argentina’s unique history of immigration.” Alan Pauls
