The human body on stage, movements structured by rhythm or its autonomy from words and concepts: The elements that make dance so special and fascinating or through which it can seduce or irritate give rise to discussion, all the more so since contemporary dance, in particular, often disavows practiced forms of reception. Following in the footsteps of its historical Dancer's congresses predecessors from the 1920’s, the Dance Congress recreates after many decades a major national forum where these and other questions concerning the art form dance may be asked and debated at length.

Spanning four days, the Congress in Berlin will bring together more than 100 international experts from the fields of dance and choreography. Speakers from the fields of production, pedagogy, critique, academia and cultural politics will be presenting and reflecting on theories which determine present-day discourse. In lectures, discussions, work groups and lecture demonstrations, both theoretical and practice-relevant subjects will be discussed with the assistance of an audience of professionals.
