With her dark, expressive voice and the sound of her guitar, the multitalented singer creates intricate yet uncluttered sound-spaces – echo chambers of a trópicalistic variation on the hip “hauntology.”

This Brazilian is simply multitalented. Ava Rocha’s resume as a multidisciplinary artist includes various video clips and exhibitions. She has made feature-length films such as “Ardor Irresistível” and “Hysteria” (with Evaldo Mocarzel). She is a member of a secret, experimental carnival society. As a singer, she released a CD with the AVA Band in 2011, made numerous guest appearances and collaborated with many musicians before teaming up with Jonas Sá to record her first solo album. Her hyperactive reflection of Rio de Janeiro’s vitality during the economic boom is balanced by the calm Ava Rocha finds in her music. With the simplest means, she creates intricate yet uncluttered sound-spaces around her guitar and her dark, expressive voice – echo chambers of a tropicalistic variation on the hip “hauntology.”
