Named for Oberammergau’s local mountain, the Kofel, “Kofelgschroa” was born when Matthias Meichelböck, Maxi Pongratz and the brothers Martin and Michael von Mücke decided to expand on the music of their local traditions, adding three-part screaming and artificial contradictions.

Armed with accordion, flugelhorn, tenor horn, helicon tuba, guitar and the local vernacular, the quartet has been plumbing the depths of its self-admittedly schizophrenic relationship with the customs of the town of Oberammergau ever since.
