When DownBeat magazine hears an aesthetic embrace between Frank Zappa and Hermeto Pascoal in the music of the Mexican band Troker, you prick up your ears – only to be bluntly rammed into the ground by their hard-hitting jazz-rock. With their dodging style and impressive group dynamic, the six Guadalajara musicians have been playing to an enthusiastic and growing audience since 2005. It speaks well of their music that they have shared the stage with the likes of Stone Temple Pilots, Medeski Martin & Wood, and Sex Mob, and even in their most Mexican moments, an unpredictable New York wind blows through their music. Last year the band ventured into as yet unexplored media territory when they composed a new score for the Mexican silent film classic The Grey Car of 1919.
