Julie Tolentino

nomadic new york counters Manhattan's restless flow of money with "decelerated" in-between spaces. Their performance art refuses spectacle. It takes on a political dimension through the formation of temporary collectives which occupy spaces in new ways. The artists open up New York and Berlin through their nomadic coming and going, their avoidance of fixed structures. In Berlin they will tell us a story of life in the global metropolis, a story that we all have in common.

In "A True Story About Two People" Julie Tolentino dances for 24 hours in a small mirrored installation. Unfolding in the House's foyer, Tolentino utilizes durational performance and offers an intimate atmosphere with an audio soundscape while slow dancing with spectators.

Tolentino has resided in NY for twenty years, is of Filipino-Salvadoran descent, was a member of ACT UP and the NY downtown dance scene. In 1990, she originated the Clit Club, a legendary hotspot of New York's lesbian nightlife.
