Melody Jue is Assistant Professor of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research uses case studies of ocean alterity to bring about shifts in consciousness and the critical practices of the humanities. Jue has published articles in Grey Room, Women's Studies Quarterly, Animations: An Interdisciplinary Journal, and Green Planets: Ecology and Science Fiction. Drawing on the experience of becoming a scuba diver, her forthcoming book project Wild Blue Media: Thinking Through Seawater submerges traditional concepts from media theory into the ocean as a technique for illuminating areas of terrestrial bias, showing how meaning emerges in species-specific and milieu-specific habituations of perception.
