2018 Annual Press Conference
Wednesday, December 6, 11 am
at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin
You are cordially invited to the 2018 Annual Press Conference on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at
11 am, held in the K1, conference room 1, at Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
Director Bernd Scherer is looking forward to presenting next year’s program to you.
The year at HKW will begin with State 1- 4, theatrical productions by the authors’ collective Rimini Protokoll, which will be performed simultaneously for the first time in Berlin. In conjunction with today’s virulent discussions about democracy, this will be our contribution to the centenary of the Weimar Republic. With the conference Race, Class, Nation, HKW will address the links between racism, class relations and nationalism. Participants include Étienne Balibar, Immanuel Wallerstein and Antonio Negri. What Carl Éinstein’s notion of the Neolithic Childhood can tell us today and how The Matrix of All Possible Narratives exposes and/or identifies gaps in the accepted canon of the fine arts will be the themes of two large exhibitions in April and September running parallel to the opening of Berlin Art Week.
The Wassermusik summer festival in 2018 will take up the issue of the Brexit under the banner Goodbye UK – and Thank You for the Music. Results of the Schools of Tomorrow project, which examines how schools can become places for alternative outlines of the future in theory and practice, will be presented in June. The Dictionary of Now will continue with volumes #10 and #11 about the words Image and Justice. We are excited about the music festivals 100 Years of Beat and 100 Years of Copyright. And we look forward to our familiar companions such as the Internationaler Literaturpreis and Les Rencontres Internationales.
That’s not all; there’s more! Following Bernd Scherer’s presentation, the programmers and curators will hold talks offering further insights into the upcoming projects.
