How do privately organized gatherings of global elites—rigorously shielded from the public—influence the fate of humanity? Every January since the 1970s, political heavyweights, CEOs of the most important corporations, and social stakeholders gather for the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the village of Davos in the Swiss Alps, famed as tuberculosis sanitarium only one hundred years ago. Staat 4 speculates on these invitation-only, prohibitively expensive meetings, on the concentration of power, and on world improvement as a private business model. As the interests of multi-million-dollar corporations are juxtaposed with those of the United Nations, the audience is caught in the middle of the contradictions and trenches of the global present.

A production by Rimini Protokoll and the Schauspielhaus Zürich as part of 100 Years of Now.
