Destruction and beauty at the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River

The city of Fengjie is soon to be lost beneath the floods of the Yangtze River, a result of the construction of the controversial Three Gorges Dam. A miner goes in search for his wife and child who left him 16 years ago, while a nurse looks for her missing husband. The drama, which won the Golden Lion in Venice in 2006, shows, in contemplative images which repeatedly drift into the surreal, the effect of megaprojects on water as a living environment and on the resident population.
