Wassermusik took place for the first time in 2008. The 2017 edition will therefore be number 10. The anniversary will celebrate the summertime festival on the banks of the Spree itself: Some of the groups and artists who created particularly magical moments are returning. And the Wassermusik makers will draw upon the entire geographical scope of the past nine festivals, from Surf and Tiki (2008) to Deserts (2011), The New Pacific (2013) to Mother India (2015) and The Other Caribbean (2016). New guests will also perform: like every festival, Wassermusik has a wish list of artists who were invited but had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.
This year’s word program explores the political significance of the resource of water; feature and documentary films as well as discussions will fill out the program each evening. In 2017, the festival curated by Detlef Diederichsen will again be held on the popular HKW roof terrace or in the exhibition hall in case of inclement weather.
