Mario Galeano is bass guitarist and the brains behind the Cumbia innovators Frente Cumbiero and one of the leading lights of the contemporary scene in Bogotá.
For the project Ondatrópica, the two men brought together a 42-piece supergroup from the Colombian music scene past, present and future in the historical studio of the Discos Fuentes label in Medellín: from the 80 year-old pianist Juancho Vargas through the 1970s Salsa superstars Fruko and Michi Sarmiento to the Hip-Hop artist Ana Tijoux. Now, a 10-piece version of the Ondatrópica band clashes traditional Cumbia gaita flutes with Boogaloo, the legendary 1970s Porro beat with Ska, and Afro-Colombian Champeta with Beatboxing. Also in on the act: the 75 year-old Michi Sarmiento, now 75 years young.
