Syndromes and a Century

The film-maker’s theme here is not what we remember, but how. A homage to his parents, and to doctors in a hospital, in a language that, with its time warps, finds an almost musical rhythm and lends cinematic presence to the magical. In this way, vignettes of life appear, characterised by the unusualness of normality.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul, born in 1970, lives in Bangkok. Syndromes and a Century was nominated for the Golden Lion in Venice in 2006.
