(Architecture & Mobility)
Four children are living with their mother in a two-roomed flat. They have never been to school. Only the 12-year-old daughter, Akira, is allowed to go outside. One day, the mother goes away, leaving nothing but a little money and a note telling Akira to look after her siblings. Cautiously, almost meditatively, director Kore-da tells a story of an immense loss and of getting on with life.
Hirokazu Kore-eda (*1962) lives in Tokyo. The girl who plays Akira won the prize for best actress in Cannes, 2004.
