Chor der Kulturen der Welt

Since May 2007, approximately thirty sopranos, altos, tenors, baritones and basses, including people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds, come together every Monday to practice in the Chor der Kulturen der Welt (Choir of World Cultures) under the direction of the musician Barbara Morgenstern and Phillip Neumann. The goal: an international, cross-genre program that always is exploring new frontiers in terms of music and content.

The repertoire ranges from pop to traditional to new music. International composers have already contributed pieces to the choir’s repertoire. The choir frequently performs together with international artists both in-Haus and elsewhere.

The Choir’s acclaimed première took place at the festive opening of the renovated Haus in September 2007. Performances by the electronic pioneers Harmonia (Worldtronics 2007), at the German-French-Polish Summer Festival at Schloss Genshagen, at the festival WASSERMUSIK 2008 on the Spree in 2008, and in the Tentstation make the Choir an ambassador of the cultures of the world.

In April 2009, the choir performed two works by Berlin-based musician Planning to Rock, whose art lies at the divide between video art and disco, and they have joined her on stage at the Pictopia - Festival of New Worlds. That summer, they performed at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, and the following September they appeared with New York vocal artist David Moss at the Penny Parade Unter den Linden by Arto Lindsay.

After guest appearances at Radialsystem and the Bundespresseamt (Federal Press Office), the Choir’s latest venture included the multimedia opera "Fathers," by The lappetites at Worldtronics 2009.
